The Coordination Office for the Spanish Presidency of the European Union (OCPEUE) and the European Commission's Directorate-General for Interpretation (SCIC) have signed a Cooperation Agreement to formalise the interpretation service to be offered by the European body at the meetings to be held during the rotating presidency of the Council of the EU, which Spain will assume on 1 July.
The Director of the Coordination Office, Aurora Mejía Errasquín, and the Director General of Interpretation of the SCIC, Genoveva Ruiz Calavera, signed the agreement today at Moncloa Palace. The event is a milestone in the commission's framework, as it is the first time that two Spanish Directors-General have signed such an agreement.
With this collaboration, the Spanish Presidency of the Council of the EU 2023 will benefit from the experience of the SCIC staff who have collaborated with the different presidencies, and who provide conference interpretation in the 24 official languages of the European Union. The interpreters will serve at informal ministerial and other high-level meetings during Spain's six-month presidency.
The event was also attended by the director of the European Commission Representation in Spain, María Ángeles Benítez Salas, the head of the Spanish SCIC unit, Carlos Hoyos Fernández-Savater, and the coordinator of the Spanish Presidency of the Council of the EU 2023 for the Directorate-General for Interpretation, Carlos García Vico.
