This is according to the latest 'Integrated Vaccination Management' GIVCOVID19 report published this Friday by the Ministry of Health, which includes data on the development of the campaign until Wednesday, 9 November.

In total, 4,631,612 people over the age of 60 years have already received the second booster with vaccines adapted to the sublineages of the Omicron variant of the SAR-CoV-2 virus.

In addition to the 1,732,297 people aged 80 years and over who have received this second booster, 1,639,575 people aged between 70 and 79 years (over 41%) and 1,259,740 people aged between 60 and 69 years (almost 23%) have also received this second booster dose, bringing the coverage rate among people aged over 60 years to 37.4%.

The vaccination campaign with a second booster dose began on 26 September in all the autonomous communities and cities and, between now and the end of the year, Spain will receive 44 million adapted vaccines from Pfizer and Moderna for the campaign.

According to the agreement reached by the Public Health Commission, the initial target groups for this campaign are people aged over 80 years and people living in nursing homes, and subsequently health and social care workers, people aged over 60 years and people who have not completed their immunisation.

A total of 92.2% of the population aged over 60 years has already received the first COVID-19 booster dose: 11,418,493 people.

Spain is one of the world's leading countries in terms of vaccination. Since the launch of the first COVID-19 vaccination campaign on 27 December 2020, milestones have gradually been reached to this effect.

Spain was the first country to vaccinate 100% of its population aged over 80 years and has high vaccination coverage rates: 92.8% of people aged over 12 years with the complete course (over 39.1 million inhabitants) and 80% of people aged over 40 years with a booster dose.

Spain has also made 70 million doses of SARS-CoV-2 vaccine available to third countries, making it one of the world's top 10 countries with the highest effective donation through the COVAX mechanism.
