Today, the Teatro Real will open its doors to those accompanying the heads of state and government attending the NATO Summit in Madrid to show them a rehearsal of Giuseppe Verdi's opera Nabucco, which will be performed for the first time on 5 July. It will be the finishing touch to the cultural agenda organised by the government to showcase some of Spain's heritage.

Specifically, the participants in the accompanying person's programme will attend the choral rehearsal of the third act of the opera Nabucco, described as "Verdi's masterpiece", which returns to the Teatro Real 151 years later, conducted by Nicola Luisotti, at the head of the Teatro Real's resident chorus and orchestra. The song 'Va, pensiero' expresses nostalgia for the homeland and love for the homeland.

Beforehand, they will visit the tailoring and characterisation workshops, where they will have the opportunity to learn about the trades of the Teatro Real. These include costume making - currently the costume for the opera Nabucco -, wig making, with the wigs sewn hair by hair, and hair styling.

Performance from Kiki Morente

They will also see on stage the cantaor Kiki Morente, who will perform a short seguidilla by his father, Enrique Morente, which will serve as a sample of his cante. Also son of the bailaora Aurora Carbonell, José Enrique Morente adds to his love and knowledge of classical cante, influenced by masters such as Manuel Vallejo, Pepe Marchena and Antonio Chacón, a wide range of artists such as Leonard Cohen, Cheb Khaled and Dulce Pontes, with whom he has had the opportunity to work on projects with his father.

Spanish gastronomy will also be present on this last day of the accompanying persons' programme, as the visit to the Teatro Real will begin with a guided tasting of the three extra virgin olive oils that received awards in the latest edition of the 'Alimentos de España' awards from the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, which will also offer a healthy breakfast with seasonal and local national products, an example of the Mediterranean diet.
