Connecting Europe Facility
European Commission selects 10 investment projects with Spanish participation to receive funding for sum of 83 million euros
News - 2020.7.17
A total of 967.38 million euros have been allocated, of which 83.38 million correspond to 10 projects with Spanish participation, with a planned investment of a little over 282 million euros.
In the period 2014-2020, the European Commission allocated almost 1.15 billion euros under the Connecting Europe Facility to investments in Spain.
Projects selected
The projects selected, two of which involve the participation of other Member States, correspond to the following actions:
- The railway stretch of the Mediterranean Corridor from Valencia to Castellón. Implementation works on the standard gauge by undertaking work on the lines, electrification and signalling installations on this stretch.
- A study of the Railway Complex at Atocha Station, which includes the drafting of the basic and construction projects for the following elements: the high-speed entrance hall, urban access on the eastern side and the modification of the configuration of the lines on the suburban train side for access to the tunnels to Sol, Recoletos and Embajadores stations.
- Improving the infrastructures at the Port of Seville in order to optimise interconnectivity between the river and railway and maritime transport, consisting of the implementation of the works to adapt and strengthen the fitting-out wharf to handle goods, and the implementation of the railway infrastructure works to enable intermodal transport to be boosted at the Port of Seville.
- The construction of the three LNG supply vessels, which will operate in the geographic areas of Barcelona, the Strait of Gibraltar and the Balearic Islands. The importance of these actions derives from the application of Directive 2014/94/EU on the implementation of an infrastructure for alternative fuels regarding the availability of the supply of LNG points for maritime transport.
- Two actions consisting of the use of electricity at ports of the Trans-European Transport Network as a source of power for vessels during their time in port.
- One of these consists of a Europe-wide study, with the participation of different European ports which comprises the necessary studies to satisfy the need to build new electricity supply facilities or to improve the existing ones at participating ports.
- The other consists of installation works at the Port of Valencia, to allow an electricity supply to moored vessels.
- A Single European Sky project, within the SESAR programme, in which Spain participates with the other European countries, as is usual regarding the Single European Sky.
