The Government plans to pay out over 100 million euros in compensation in Granada through the Insurance Compensation Consortium

The First Vice-President of the Government of Spain and Minister for Economy, Trade and Business, Carlos Cuerpo, together with the Government's sub-delegate in Granada, met with 18 mayors from the towns that have suffered the most damage, as well as a residents' association representing those affected by the series of earthquakes recorded in the province since 14 August.

At both meetings, the Vice-President reported on the actions being taken by the Insurance Compensation Consortium (CCS) - a public business entity attached to the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Business - to address the 27,500 claims filed so far for material damage caused by the succession of earthquakes. The estimated cost of these damages currently stands at 72 million euros, a figure expected to rise as more claims are filed. Furthermore, the Vice-president of the Government announced that the Government will approve the declaration of the area as one seriously affected by civil protection emergencies.

95% of the claims involve private homes and homeowners' associations, accounting for 25,797 files and estimated damages of 65.4 million euros. More than half are concentrated in the metropolitan area. The remaining applications on the register relate to shops, warehouses and other risks, offices, industrial premises, motor vehicles and civil engineering works.

The Consortium's estimates suggest that the total number of applications could reach 60,000, with an average of 2,000 applications per day.

The estimated cost of compensation payments exceeds 100 million euros, a figure far higher than the 17 million euros which, as Cuerpo pointed out, were paid out following the 13,000 claims received in 2021.

Reinforcement of support and claims assessment resources

To tackle this emergency, the CCS has bolstered its channels for receiving claims - both telephone and online - and has adopted extraordinary measures to simplify administrative procedures, aiming to make it easier for affected individuals to access the compensation due to them.

At the same time, the organisation has deployed 146 specialist assessors - a figure expected to rise to 250 in the coming days - to inspect and assess the damage in order to ensure an effective response. More than 27,500 of the applications received to date have already been assigned an expert. The first compensation payments began today, and projections indicate that 90% of payments will be made within the next three to four months.

Affected policyholders can report claims by telephone on 900 222 665; via the Insurance Compensation Consortium's website (www.consorseguros.es) or even through their own insurers, in order to receive compensation from this public business entity.
