The Government is providing 1.325 billion euros in funding for university grants for the 2024-2025 academic year, a 3.4% increase on the previous year

The Government of Spain, through the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities (MICIU), has allocated 1,325 million euros to fund grants for undergraduate and postgraduate students, representing an increase of 3.4 per cent compared with the previous academic year and a rise of 43 per cent compared with 2018-2019.

This government initiative accounts for 93% of the total amount of university grants for the 2024-2025 academic year provided by all public authorities in Spain.

Thanks to this investment, some 300,000 students have benefited from grants, according to figures from the Statistics on Grants and Study Aid for the 2024-2025 academic year. Ninety per cent of these are students enrolled at public universities.

The Minister for Science, Innovation and Universities, Diana Morant, has emphasised "the Government's commitment to strengthening the scholarship policy to ensure that no one has to give up their university education due to their families' lack of financial resources". "We are continuing to work to ensure that it is talent and hard work that open the doors to the future, not each family's financial situation, and in doing so to strengthen equality and social cohesion in our country," he said.

The average amount of the state grant (including tuition fees) stands at 4,245 euros, the highest figure in the statistical series, representing a 43.5% increase compared to the 2018-2019 academic year.

Finally, it is worth noting that one in three newly enrolled undergraduate students has been awarded a state grant.
