Unemployment falls by 16,291 in December to a total of 2,408,670, with the lowest youth unemployment in the historical series

The number of unemployed people registered in the offices of the State Public Employment Service (SEPE) at the end of December 2025 fell by 16,291 people in relation to the previous month (-0.67%).

With this decrease, registered unemployment stood at a total of 2,408,670 people.

In year-on-year terms, unemployment fell by 152,048 people (-5.94%), making 56 months of consecutive year-on-year falls.

Unemployment by economic sector

Registered unemployment fell in the Services sector by 14,287 people (-0.81%), in Agriculture by 1,531 people (-2.03%), and among the Unemployed by 7,725 people (-3.37%).

However, it increased in Construction by 5,568 people (3.23%), and in Industry by 1,684 people (0.90%).

Unemployment by sex and age

Female unemployment decreased in December by 22,096 women (-1.51%) to a total of 1,443,999 compared to November. Compared to the same month of the previous year, female unemployment fell by 87,563 women (-5.72%).

Male unemployment stood at 964,671, an increase of 5,805 (0.61%). Compared to December 2024, male unemployment fell by 64,485 men (-6.27%).

Unemployment of young people under 25 years fell in December by 11,470 people (-6.09%) compared with the previous month. A total of 176,852 young people were registered. This is the lowest figure in the historical series.

Unemployment by autonomous community

Registered unemployment in December 2025 fell in 10 autonomous communities. The biggest falls in absolute numbers were in Andalusia (-12,271 people), Comunidad Valenciana (-2,173 people), and Comunidad de Madrid (-1,504 people).

Recruitment

The total number of contracts registered in December was 1,230,356. Of this total, 458,808 contracts were permanent, representing 37.29% of all contracts.

Unemployment benefits in November 2025

The total number of beneficiaries at the end of November stood at 1,838,267.

The coverage of the unemployment protection system during the month of November 2025 was 81.16%, the highest in a November in the historical series.

The average monthly expenditure per beneficiary in November 2025, excluding the agricultural subsidy in Andalusia and Extremadura, was €1,464.50, representing an increase of €334.50 (29.6%) over the same month the previous year.

The total investment in November 2025 amounted to just over €2.037 billion.
