Tourism employment stands at 2.79 million Social Security contributors in November, after increasing by 2.7%

Tourism employment continues to grow in the penultimate month of the year. The number of contributors in the tourism sector in November amounted to 2,793,718, an increase of 2.7% compared to the same period of the previous year, according to data from Turespaña. The number of contributors linked to tourism activities increased in absolute terms by 73,582 workers. In relation to the labour market of the country as a whole - which grew by 2.7% year-on-year this month - tourism employment accounted for 12.8% of the total number of registered workers.

In November, the change in contributors linked to tourism activities has been positive in all tourism branches. In hotels and catering there was an increase of 34,308 contributors (10,389 in accommodation services and 23,919 in food and beverage services), while in travel agencies there was an increase of 1,193 workers. In other tourism activities the figure increased by 38,081 workers.

Increase in the number of employees in the sector

The number of employees in the tourism industry, one of the variables used by the Ministry to evaluate the improvement in the quality of tourism employment, and which represents 81.9% of the total number of contributors in this industry, increased 3.1% compared to the same month of the previous year. By branch of activity, salaried employment increased in both travel agencies and tour operators (1.5%) as well as in hotels and restaurants (2.3%), and within the latter, it increased by 3.2% in accommodation services and by 2.1% in food and beverage services.

Self-employment in tourism, which represents 18.1% of the total number of contributing workers, increased 0.9%. In the hotel and catering, there was an increase of 0.4%. In travel agencies, there was a 2.4% year-on-year increase in the number of self-employed people.

In the hotel and catering and travel agencies/tour operators sectors added together, which account for 66.3% of the total number of national insurance contributors in tourism, enrolment increased by 2% year-on-year.

Growth in tourism employment in all regions

In November 2025, employment in hotels and catering and travel agencies/tour operators as a whole increased in all regions.

In absolute figures, the largest increase was in Andalusia, while in relative terms the largest increase was in the Valencian Community (4.3%).
