The Social Security registered 3,047,089 foreign contributors discounting the calendar effect. For yet another month, the number of workers from other countries exceeds three million, after adding almost 200,000 employed in the last twelve months (197,091), which is exactly 6.9% more.
They already represent 14.05% of the system's contributors. In fact, since the labour reform, more than 40% of the employment created corresponds to foreign workers.

"Three million foreign workers have chosen our country to develop their lives and in this way, they contribute to growing the economy and securing our future. They are fundamental to sustaining our welfare state," said Minister Elma Saiz.
In the original series, the number is also back above three million (3,069,269), 22,079 fewer than in July, which is the usual figure for the months of August.
Women now account for 43.3% of all foreign workers, with 1,329,995 foreign female contributors in the system.
General system
In line with the situation of native workers, 83.9% of foreign contributors were included in the General Social Security Scheme, reaching 2,575,046 workers.
The sectors with the highest presence of workers from other countries are: Hotels and Restaurants (30%), Activities of Extraterritorial Organisations and Bodies (28.7%), Agriculture (24.5%), Construction (22.2%), Administrative Activities (17.7%), Transport and Storage (17.1%) and Real Estate Activities (14.7%) and high value added sectors such as Information and Communications (12.3%), Artistic Activities (11.8%) and Scientific and Technical Activities (10%).
The increase in employment of foreigners over the last 12 months is around 6.9%. Ten sectors are above average, the fastest growing being Transport and Storage (30.9%), Water Supply (13.1%), Construction (11.4%), Mining and Quarrying (10.5%) and Industrial Manufacturing (9.6%).
Growth in high value-added activities is also noteworthy: Financial Activities (8.1%), Professional, Scientific and Technical Activities (5.7%), and Information and Communications (5.6%).
Of the total, 30.5% are workers from EU countries. By country, the largest number of contributors came from Morocco, followed by Romania, Colombia, Italy, Venezuela and China.
Record number of foreign self-employed
The number of self-employed contributors from other countries reached a new peak in August: 487,601 people, 6.5% more than a year ago.
This growth is most pronounced in highly skilled sectors: in the last year, the number of self-employed foreign workers has increased by 28.5% in Information and Communications, and by 18.1% in Professional, Scientific and Technical Activities.
