All the information available on the Fourth UN International Conference on Financing for Development, to be held in Seville between 30 June and 3 July, is now available on the Moncloa Palace website. This international gathering - the only forum where leaders from all governments, international and regional organisations, financial and trade institutions, business, civil society and the United Nations system come together at the highest level to strengthen international cooperation - will bring together many heads of state and government and more than 10,000 official delegates, participants and media.
The conference, known as FFD4, will feature an extensive official programme and numerous fringe events and activities at various levels. The Government of Spain will have a strong presence, including the participation of the president of the Government of Spain in various debates and round tables on cooperation, governance and multilateral financing throughout the four days of the summit. It is also worth highlighting the support given to FFD4 through various actions by different public sector institutional entities and public law corporations, such as Correos, ONCE, Renfe and AENA.
Programme
The official FFD4 programme includes the opening session, with the intervention of the Secretary-General of the United Nations, António Guterres, and the President of the Government of Spain, Pedro Sánchez; various plenary sessions, and the closing of the Conference, as well as a series of special events, fringe events and round tables - more than 300 events in total - on specific topics related to multilateral financing for development action areas:
- Mobilisation of domestic public resources.
- Mobilisation of private companies and finance.
- Revitalising international development cooperation.
- Defending the multilateral trading system and promoting science, technology and innovation.
- Implementation of a development-oriented sovereign debt architecture.
- Improving the international financial architecture and systemic issues.
The FFD4 agenda includes the launch of the Seville Platform for Action (SPA), which will mobilise coalitions of countries and other actors to launch joint initiatives to address common sustainable development challenges. In parallel to the Conference, an International Business Forum will be held, which aims to bring together heads of state and government, ministers, CEOs and global business leaders to attract private finance and investment for sustainable development and the completion of the 2030 Agenda.
In addition, before the official start of the Conference, civil society actors will meet for two days (28-29 June) to discuss their involvement in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals and propose new initiatives to achieve them.
