"Their presence in the various missions is a source of reassurance and security. The work they do and their commitment to peace mean that the Spanish people regard the Armed Forces as the most highly valued institution," expressed Minister for Defence, Margarita Robles, with pride.

On the occasion of Europe Day, Robles held a videoconference from the Department's headquarters with the Spanish contingents deployed on the European continent, on the 80th anniversary of the end of the Second World War.

"Today we wanted to highlight the role of the Spanish Armed Forces in peace and in the daily construction of Europe, a fundamental contribution in such complicated and difficult times as those we are experiencing with the war in Ukraine," said Robles.

The minister also referred to the latest survey by the Sociological Research Centre (CIS), in which Spaniards considered the Armed Forces to be the most highly valued institution and the one that inspires the most confidence, giving it an average score of 6.8 points.

"I think this is a source of satisfaction for all of us, because the Spanish people know and value their commitment to security and peace. And so I would like to convey my pride and gratitude for your work and wish you a great Europe Day," said Robles to the ten or so contingents connected from all over Europe.

The commanders of the ground forces stationed in Slovakia, Latvia and Romania, more than 1,500 military personnel reinforcing NATO's Eastern Flank, linked up for the occasion. Navy ships operating in naval groupings in the Atlantic Ocean, Mediterranean, Baltic and North Seas were also involved. All of them provided updates on the most relevant aspects of their contingents.
