The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food and the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Tourism, through ICEX, have signed an addendum to the agreement with the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food Spain Food Nation, which will extend the international communication campaign promoting the Spanish agri-food sector throughout 2024 and into 2025.

The addendum, published today in the Official State Gazette increases the initial budget of the agreement by €1,806,626 (originally €3,804,000). In this way, the Government is allocating a total of €5,710,626 over three years (2023-2025) to this agreement, in order to give greater visibility to Spanish foodstuffs in international markets through actions that combine efforts in the internationalisation of the sector, revitalise the market and guarantee its future.

Building an image and reputation for the agri-food sector focused on sustainability, diversity, quality and excellence requires a sustained effort over time. For this reason, since 2020, the ministry and ICEX have been promoting the consumption of Spanish foodstuffs through agreements under the Spain Food Nation campaign abroad.

Through the Food from Spain Strategy, the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food supports and has a presence in certain strategic and key actions to communicate and publicise the fact that Spain is a food and gastronomic power. Spain's image as a country in the international arena is associated with quality food and gastronomy, which generates confidence, security and satisfaction.

Spanish agri-food production as a whole is characterised by the variety, quality and professionalism of its operators. The fact that agri-food exports 2023 are holding records year after year (more than 70 billion euros in 2023) is a sign of the strength and competitiveness of the products and trade relations that make Spain a leader in food and gastronomy.

The addendum to the Spain Food Nation V agreement seeks to balance and strengthen the project by promoting internationally recognised sectoral actions on iconic products of special gastronomic value.

Interventions in key markets such as the United States, the United Kingdom, Switzerland and Asia, with a particular focus on China and Japan, are strengthened.

New actions include:

  • Carrying out reverse missions of buyers and promoters to the main international fairs and congresses in Spain, with the aim of increasing demand for Spanish products abroad.
  • Extension of Spain Fusion events to Japan, as a priority market for the agreement.
  • Summit development in Japan to address specific opportunities and challenges in the Japanese market.
  • Positioning studies in the United States and Japan.
  • Promotion of iconic Spanish wines, such as Cava and Sherry, through technical conferences and specialised events such as Cava Meeting and Copa Jerez Forum.
  • Expansion of the SFN exhibitions aimed at professional audiences, including Taste Spain activities in London and Edinburgh, as well as the presence at the International Agricultural Show in Morocco, where Spain was guest of honour in this year's edition.
