News - 2024.2.29
This new statistic will be published monthly and includes the monthly payroll data, the accumulated data, as well as a complete dossier broken down by province, which includes a breakdown by type of household, amounts or benefit holders, among others.
In the last year, there has been a considerable increase in both the number of households and the number of recipients of the Minimum Basic Income, which is the sum of the holder and the people who form part of their cohabitation unit. In the case of households, 122,368 more households receive it than a year ago, which represents an increase of 28.13% compared to February 2023, while the number of beneficiaries shows a year-on-year variation of 34.75% with 430,519 more beneficiaries.
In cumulative terms since June 2020, when it was launched, the IMV has reached 773,654 households and benefited the 2,279,440 people who were part of them, largely children and adolescents, which represents 43.45% of the total number of beneficiaries.
Overall, the accumulated expense of the Minimum Basic Income since its implementation is 9.65 billion euros. In February, the amount was 346.4 million.
Female, Spanish, 45 years old
If we look at the characteristics of the holder, the data published today shows that two thirds, or 66.6%, are women. Furthermore, 82.3% of all holders are Spanish and their average age is 45 years old, regardless of the fact that we find IMV holders of all age ranges from 24 years old onwards, including 10,304 over 65 years old.
A large proportion of the cohabitation units are households with minors, specifically 66.1% have one or more (368,672). Among them, there are 98,315 single-parent households, 26.7% of the number of families with children.
As for the profile of all beneficiaries in February, which includes both the beneficiaries and the rest of the members of their family unit, 53.5% are women and the presence of minors is very significant: 688,794 of the beneficiaries (41.3%) are under 18 years old, including 183,690 children under 5 years old. The average age of the beneficiaries is 28.1.
In this respect, it is worth highlighting the significance of the Child Aid Supplement (API), which this month reached 376,330 households. It amounts to 115 euros per household per month for children aged 0-3; 80.5 euros per month for each child aged 3-6 and 57.5 euros per month for each child aged 6-18 years.
Comprehensive Plan to Access the Minimum Basic Income
The publication of the new statistics responds to the Comprehensive Plan to Access the IMV, which the Minister for Inclusion, Social Security and Migration, Elma Saiz, announced during the IMV event: a policy more alive than ever.
One of the three pillars of the plan is based on transparency, in addition to streamlining the processes - for which interoperability will be guaranteed between the administrations of documents already in their possession or drawn up by them, for example - and proximity and accessibility, ranging from a review of the website and the benefit application forms, to the implementation of a short number for the IMV - 020 - for the summer, which will entail a 40% increase in INSS staff.
"We want to remove barriers and get closer to households at risk of exclusion," said Minister Elma Saiz. "We have unveiled new proposals and measures that improve access to the benefit and I am committed to redoubling our efforts to reach where we are not reaching," she added.
