At the meeting, which took place in Buenos Aires, within the framework of the V World Summit on Mental Health being held this week in the Argentinean capital, Minister Miñones reiterated Spain's support for the Region of the Americas on health issues and shared with the Director of PAHO our country's priorities in the presidency of the Council of the EU, as well as the calendar of High-Level Meetings (HLM).
Among the areas of collaboration, the minister highlighted the promotion of transplants, where our country's model is a benchmark, Digital Health, the response to HIV as a public health problem and overcoming the stigma associated with the disease, the commitment to Global Health and the contribution to putting an end to tuberculosis and malaria, and the deployment of One Health initiatives.
Miñones and Barbosa agreed on the importance of vaccination campaigns, with important examples such as the donation of vaccines against COVID-19, which has allowed more than 70 million doses to be allocated since July 2021.
In this regard, it should be recalled that Spain is among the top 10 countries in the world in terms of actual donations of vaccines to the COVAX mechanism.
The acting ministry also signed a Memorandum of Understanding with PAHO to carry out activities of the Ibero-American Network/Council on Donation and Transplantation (RCIDT).
