Spain will chair the executive committee of the Regional Centre for Book Promotion in Latin America and the Caribbean (CERLALC)
News - 2023.5.18
Through the Ministry of Culture and Sport, and until May 2024, Spain will chair the executive committee of the Regional Centre for Book Promotion in Latin America and the Caribbean (CERLALC). This decision was taken unanimously by the six member states yesterday.
This intergovernmental body focuses its actions on fostering the production and circulation of books, promoting reading and writing, and stimulating and protecting intellectual creation.
Spain has been a member of CERLALC since 1975. The interlocutors and representatives of this body are the cultural policy makers of the following member countries: Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Ecuador, El Salvador, Spain, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Portugal, Dominican Republic, Uruguay and Venezuela.
CERLALC is naturally a privileged forum for relations with other ministries of culture and education, with a view to developing policies to promote reading, the consolidation and respect for copyright and the free circulation of books in the region.
To this effect, it provides in-depth knowledge of the publishing reality of each member country; closer collaboration with those responsible for public policies on reading, books and libraries in the different countries that take part in the organisation; and learning about the best practices carried out in each member country in areas such as the promotion of reading and public policies on books.
