The Minister for Health, Carolina Darias, has announced that, on 7 February, she will submit to the Council of Ministers "the proposal to remove the obligation to wear masks on public transport", taking into account the current situation of epidemiological stability of COVID-19 and reports from experts and scientific societies.
Will masks still have to be worn in pharmacies and health centres?
Yes. Mandatory use of face masks shall remain in place in health care establishments and services, and in social and health care facilities for those who work there and visitors.
When will face masks no longer be compulsory on public transport?
According to statements by the Minister for Health, the end of the obligation to wear face masks on public transport will be approved by the Council of Ministers on Tuesday 7 February.
Ahead of time, next week, Carolina Darias will convene the Interterritorial Council of the National Health System (CISNS) to coordinate the measure with the regional governments and autonomous cities, taking into account the report from the Public Health Commission's Alerts and Preparedness and Response Plans Committee.
The Minister reiterated that all the decisions adopted in the different phases of the pandemic have been agreed during the CISNS and thanked all the administrations, experts and scientific societies, health professionals and the public for their efforts and work.
