At the meeting, which precedes tomorrow's meeting of the National Security Council, developments in the Russian invasion of Ukraine and its consequences were discussed following recent events, including the partial destruction of the Crimean bridge and the Russian bombardment of Kiev and other Ukrainian cities.

Progress made in the working groups set up under the committee - including the sanctions group - after the EU adopted an eighth package last week in response to Russia's illegal annexation of four Ukrainian regions, has also been reported.

The humanitarian crisis generated by the war, which has already caused more than 13.7 million people to flee Ukraine, has also been discussed.

In Spain, there are 147,138 people from Ukraine with temporary protection. More than 66,800 displaced persons have been registered in the National Health System and, with the start of the academic year, 34,928 displaced Ukrainian pupils are enrolled in school, of whom 29,647 are minors.
