The Memorandum of Understanding, previously signed in Washington by US Secretary of Education, Miguel Cardona, provides, among other things, for the strengthening of student and teacher mobility and exchange programmes, as well as the promotion of bilingual and multicultural education in both education systems.

Currently, over 1,000 Spanish teachers are working as visiting teachers in the United States and, next year, Spain will receive over 4,500 American language assistants. In addition, over 1,000 students are participating in the Spanish Language and Culture Groupings managed by the Ministry of Education and Vocational Training's Acción Educativa Exterior (AEE) [Foreign Education Action]. The AEE also collaborates with the over 100 bilingual centres in the International Spanish Academies (ISA) network in the United States, in which over 30,000 students are enrolled.
