Compared to March 2021, unemployment fell by 840,877 people (-21.29%), the largest year-on-year reduction in the historical series.

Recruitment

The total number of contracts registered in March rose to 1,671,841. This is a rise of 267,734 (19.07%) over the same month in 2021.

There were 513,677 permanent contracts registered, an absolute record for any month in the historical series, representing 30.73% of all contracts.

There were 306,486 more permanent contracts (147.92%) were signed than in the same month of the previous year.

Since December, the percentage of permanent contracts as a percentage of total contracts has tripled.

By sector, the percentage of permanent contracts increased, especially in Construction and Services.

The percentage change in permanent contracts is very pronounced in all sectors, with agriculture of particular note.

Cumulative recruitment in the first three months of 2022 reached 4,712,230, which is 793,410 more contracts (20.25%) than in the same period of the previous year.

A total of 1,069,190 permanent contracts were signed up to March 2022, an increase of 605,377 (130.52%) over the same period in 2021.

Compared to March 2019, 334,000 more permanent contracts and 372,000 fewer temporary contracts have been signed.

Unemployment by sex and age

Female unemployment fell in March compared to February by 9,219 women (-0.50%) to a total of 1,831,428 registered unemployed.

Male unemployment increased by 6,298 men (0.50%) to 1,277,335 registered unemployed.

Compared with February 2021, female unemployment fell by 446,671 women (-19.61%). Male unemployment also fell by 394,206 men (-23.58%).

Unemployment of young people under 25 rose in March by 7,365 people (3.27%) compared with the previous month.

In year-on-year terms, it has fallen by 34.9%, bringing the total number of unemployed young people to 232,845, the lowest figure for a month in March.

Unemployment by economic sector

By economic sector in March, unemployment fell in Services by 18,090 people (-0.82%) and rose among the group Without Previous Employment by 6,764 people (2.71%); in Construction, by 5,664 people (2.33%); in Agriculture, by 1,568 people (1.01%) and in Industry where unemployment rose by 1,173 people (0.46%).

Unemployment by autonomous community

Unemployment in March 2022 fell in nine Autonomous Communities, particularly in the Canary Islands (-3,381), the Balearic Islands (-3,014) and Galicia (-1,173).

Benefits in February

There were 1,844,256 existing beneficiaries at the end of the month.

Total expenditure on benefits in February amounted to 1,881.9 million euros. In February 2022, the average monthly amount per beneficiary - excluding the agricultural subsidy in Andalusia and Extremadura - was 1,045.8 euros.

A total of 82 million euros in ERTE payrolls has been paid.
