For the Minister for Industry, Trade and Tourism, Reyes Maroto, "Spain has remained in a position of international leadership despite the crisis caused by the pandemic. During this time, we have strengthened the instruments to support the sector while working on the projects and strategies that will allow us to transform our model and develop all the tourism potential of our country". For the head of tourism, "Spain faces 2022 with a solid base on which to build the tourism recovery, and we have to take advantage of all the opportunities afforded by the Recovery Plan to implement a historic transformation of our tourism model".

According to Maroto, "the success of our tourism model must be based on quality and not quantity, a model based on the development of new products and services, applying innovation and digitalisation as drivers of transformation, implementing a new economically, socially and environmentally sustainable model that offers our visitors new and better experiences before, during and after their visit".

Commitment to digitalisation and sustainability

Taking advantage of the 42nd edition of FITUR, an event that will bring all the players in the national and international tourism sector together in Madrid for three days, the Ministry of Tourism, with Turespaña's stand as a reference, has scheduled an agenda of activities with the aim of presenting the new model's main axes: Transformation through experiences, digitalisation as a driver of transformation and sustainability as a priority for the future.

Thus, during the first day, the event experiences will be new competitive paradigms in sun and beach destinations, which will be attended by the minister (4:00 pm).

On Thursday, the activities will focus on the concept of digitalisation and its role in the transformation of tourism. The minister will attend the presentation of the Mastercard tourism innovation hub (10:00 am) and at 12:00 pm she will open the round table on the role of digitalisation.

On Friday, the President of the Government of Spain and the Minister will take part in the event on sustainability as a lever for tourism competitiveness (10:30 am), in which the actions and investments that the Executive is developing to transform and adapt our destinations will be presented.

In addition, in this new edition, the public companies dependent on the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Tourism present at the exhibition will also develop activities in their spaces.

Thus, the Paradores de Turismo stand will seek to position its hotel network as a sustainable and natural destination. For its part, SEGITTUR is organising a new edition of Fitur Know-how & Export, a space where Spanish companies will be able to showcase their potential, knowledge, services and tourism products, as well as organising workshops for tourism professionals and destination managers where they can catch up on the latest innovations for smart destinations.
