The meeting allowed for detailed analysis of relevant issues on the international agenda, such as the regional situation, the ratification process of the EU-Mercosur Association Agreement and the follow-up on the Ibero-American Summits.

During the breakfast, the two ministers highlighted the excellent state of bilateral relations. Spain, as the EU's main trading partner with Argentina and the second largest foreign investor after the US, is following the Mercosur situation with great interest, whose pro tempore presidency is held by Argentina during this six-month period, and the Association Agreement - to which both parties give priority - between this regional bloc and the EU. The Government of Spain has been working hard for months on multiple fronts to facilitate consensus in favour of ratifying this agreement, which will bring great benefits to its citizens. The head of Spanish diplomacy exchanged views with her Argentine counterpart on her recent trip to Brazil and Paraguay, where she was able to confirm Mercosur's political will to move forwards with the process for its ultimate entry into force.

Both countries intend to conduct an in-depth review of existing bilateral instruments, identifying objectives in areas of common interest, with a view to regaining the beat of a close and multidimensional relationship.
