This was announced on Monday by the Minister for Health, Carolina Darias, during the informal meeting of European Union health ministers held by video-conference and chaired by the Portuguese Minister for Health, Marta Temido.

The Minister for Health outlined the work that Spain has been doing to implement the quality of information in the State Vaccination Register against COVID-19, which currently allows the doses administered, their types and lots to be controlled, among other parameters.

The Minister for Health stressed that, although the epidemiological situation in our country is improving, it continues to maintain all tiers of government on alert, starting with the Government of Spain.

Contention measures against the new variants

In this regard, she conveyed to the other EU health ministers the concerns of the Government of Spain at the new variants of COVID-19, together with the work being done to increase the tools to detect and identify cases related to these new variants and control their spread.

"The plan to boost our sequencing capacity is fully aligned with the goals of the European Union", highlighted Carolina Darias, who outlined the measures adopted, such as the limitation of flights from the United Kingdom, Brazil and South Africa to those made up of Spanish passengers and residents; the demand for a PCR test at origin and an antigen test upon the arrival of passengers from Brazil and South Africa, and a compulsory 10-day quarantine for passengers from the latter two countries.

Monday's meeting by video-conference was also attended, among others, by the Vice-President of the European Commission, Margaritis Schinas and the European Commissioner for Health and Food Safety, Stella Kyriakides, along with representatives of the European Medicines Agency (EMA) and the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC).
