The minister managed to reach a stable agreement with a duration of 15 years and a purchase option by the State at the end of this period. The rental price is 6.5 million euros per annum for a collection of paintings and sculptures with a value of 1.04 billion euros.
Baroness Thyssen-Bornemisza de Kászon has also added 'Mata Mua' by Paul Gauguin to the collection currently deposited at the National Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum, which had left the National Museum under an export licence in 2019.
Furthermore, the Ministry of Culture and Sport and the Thyssen-Bornemisza Foundation will collaborate with Baroness Thyssen-Bornemisza de Kászon in the definitive organisation of the art museum, which is being run by San Feliu de Guixols.
Under this agreement, nine years of extensions of the loan that Baroness Thyssen-Bornemisza de Kászon had agreed with the State back in 2002, which had to be extended every few months, are brought to an end. This thus brings together the two collections - that of Baron Hans Heinrich von Thyssen-Bornemisza with that of Baroness Carmen Thyssen-Bornemisza.
These 400 works of art include noteworthy paintings and sculptures by such artists as Braque, Brueghel the Elder, Canaletto, Fragonard, Gauguin, van Gogh, Juan Gris, Kandinsky, Matisse, Miró, Monet, Nolde, O'Keeffe, Picasso, Pissarro, Renoir and Rodin, among others.
