At this meeting, they highlighted that the process began in Spain in care homes for the elderly, to firstly protect the most vulnerable segments of the population, which was an additional effort in logistical terms, but which has unfolded according to plan, without incident.

They also reported that during the first few days, some 30,000 doses a day were administered, but that some 67,000 people are now being vaccinated daily. To date, almost 750,000 doses of the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine have now been distributed, more than 65% of which has now been administered. In addition, the administration of the second doses will begin on 18 January and the first doses of the Moderna vaccine have been distributed on Wednesday.

At the same meeting, it was made clear that one of the main lessons learned in these first few days in our country is the importance of coordination and communication between all the tiers of government involved.

As regards the monitoring system, Spain has a national vaccination register system (Spanish acronym: (REGVACU), which receives daily information from the different regional information systems, the main figures of which are published daily on the web page of the Ministry of Health.

Lastly, the ministerial representatives declared their satisfaction at the coordination efforts being implemented to share information and best practices by all EU countries.
