Government distributes 33.7 million units of protective material to regional health authorities

The Government of Spain, through the Ministry of Health, continues with its daily efforts to provide the regional health authorities with the material necessary to tackle the COVID-19 crisis. Between 10 March and Wednesday, 1 April, close to 34 million units of this material has been delivered to the regional health authorities, including face masks, gloves, gowns, protective suits, footwear covers, goggles, hats and aprons, as well as respirators and sanitising liquids.

Specifically, 33,790,998 units of material have been handed over in an effort by the government to strengthen the National Health System to tackle the virus under the best possible conditions.

In the last 24 hours, 1,004,000 face masks have been delivered to the regional health authorities, to give a total number of face masks delivered of 16,554,815. To date, the Regional Government of Madrid has received 4,550,904 face masks, Catalonia has received 2,616,288 and Andalusia has received 1,630,105. Other regional authorities including Castile-La Mancha, Castile & Leon, the Basque Country and the Region of Valencia have each received more than 1 million face masks.

In addition, 15,000 disposable gowns have been delivered in the last 24 hours, to give a sum total of 92,600 units since 10 March.

The regional authorities have also received 13 new mechanical invasive ventilators, making a total of 119 provided by the government.

To date, the Region of Madrid and Catalonia are the regions to have received the most material, with 9.3 million and 5.6 million units of material respectively.
