On Wednesday, the human remains found where the accident took place in 2003 were exhumed in the Turkish town of Maçka, Trabzon province.
The exhumation was carried out by the Turkish judicial authorities in the presence of the Spanish consul in Ankara. It is planned to send the remains to the Coroner's Office in Istanbul.
It has also been reliably determined that other human remains from the same plane crash are in the same institution. They were extracted at the time for DNA analysis following the accident.
The Spanish Government has reached an agreement with the Turkish authorities for the official delivery of all these remains to be made to the Spanish consular authorities for their subsequent repatriation to Spain.
All these activities are being carried out by the authority of María Tardón Olmos, the judge of the Central Criminal Investigation Court No.3 and was coordinated by the Spanish National High Court.
