The Directorate-General of the Merchant Navy also activated the alert phase of the National Maritime Plan to track the spill.

Following a request from the French maritime authority, the Alonso de Chaves Maritime Rescue Service vessel was dispatched with equipment to combat pollution. The vessel is expected to arrive in the area of operations on Monday, 18 March.

Furthermore, the Sasemar 103 aircraft will perform observational reconnaissance of the spill tomorrow.

According to predictions from the drift models based on current weather data and conditions, pollution is not expected to reach the Spanish coast.
