The first group of Syrian refugees to arrive in Spain from Turkey for resettlement arrived on a flight from Istanbul that landed at 22:55 on Tuesday at Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport. Of the 10 applicants for international protection, four were relocated to Tarragona (one man, one woman and two children) and six to Navarre (four men, one woman and one child).

This second stage of refugee reception, in which refugees will arrive for both relocation (from Greece) and resettlement (from Turkey and Lebanon), continues on from those developed between 24 May and 1 June, in addition to that which took place in December 2015. This relocation of asylum-seekers brings the total now received by Spain in response to the humanitarian consequences of the war in Syria to 134. Of this total, 40 came from Italy, 84 from Greece and 10 from Turkey.

The Spanish System for the Reception and Integration of applicants/beneficiaries of international protection offers its beneficiaries a stay at a reception centre of the Ministry of Employment and Social Security or of an NGO (subsidised by the government) at which they are guaranteed lodging, meals, legal advice, psychological assistance, social care and advice, accompaniment to education centres, public health and social centres, language learning and basic social skills, guidance and intermediation for vocational training and job reinsertion, cultural activities and economic aid.
