During the meeting, the Minister for Defence conveyed his condolences and support to the Moroccan Government following the floods that have hit Morocco in recent days, and reiterated Spain's offer of help.
Abdelilah Benkirane thanked Pedro Morenés for his visit and highlighted the common points of interest and work in the two countries, particularly in relation to maritime security and the joint fight against Jihadism.
The Minister for Defence also held a working meeting with his Moroccan counterpart, Abdellatif Loudiyi, who expressed his gratitude for Spain's support following the floods and the offer of military resources to help the victims. Both Abdellatif Loudiyi and Pedro Morenés highlighted the mutual commitment to stability, the fight against terrorism and the fight against illegal smuggling. The Moroccan minister congratulated Pedro Morenés on the Spanish presidency of the 5+5 Initiative and highlighted the importance of its contribution to security in the Western Mediterranean. Abdellatif Loudiyi then confirmed his presence at the meeting of Defence Ministers of the 5+5 Initiative to be held in Granada on 10 and 11 December.
The Moroccan minister commented that one of the priorities of the close relations maintained between the two countries is the management of disasters and crises and cooperation on cyber-defence. Finally, he highlighted the importance of working on interoperability within the framework of NATO.
Pedro Morenés also met with the Inspector-General of the Royal Armed Forces and Commander of the Southern Zone, General Bouchaib Arroub, where the two leaders highlighted the harmonious relations on defence issues, which have resulted in more than 90 joint actions being carried so far this year, and the excellent relations between the two royal families.
