Government informs regional governments on current state of Brexit

The Minister for Territorial Policy and Public Function, Carolina Darias, and the Minister for Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation, Arancha González Laya, chaired the meeting of the Conference for Affairs Related with the European Union (Spanish acronym: CARUE), with representatives from Central Government and all the regional governments, to address the current state of Brexit.

During her speech, Carolina Darias highlighted that the European Council recalled that the transition period ends on 31 December 2020, and her concern that the progress on the key issues of interest for the European Union is insufficient for reaching an agreement.

For her part, Minister González Laya informed the regional governments of the situation negotiations are at on the agreement on the future relationship with the United Kingdom and the European Union and preparations on the transition period.

The previous plenary session of the CARUE, given over to Brexit, was held on 28 May this year, which addressed both the actions of the European Union in relation to the pandemic stemming from the COVID-19, and the situation on negotiations relating to Brexit.
