Mariano Rajoy underlined, during his presentation of Cristina Cifuentes, President of the Regional Government of Madrid, at the breakfast and Q&A session of New Economic Forum, that "Spain will always stand" alongside its Portuguese neighbours and sister nation.

The President of the Government had already passed on his condolences to the Prime Minister of the Portuguese Republic, António Costa, in a telegram. In this, he also stressed that "Portugal can count on Spain for whatever it may need at this difficult time".

In this regard, it should be recalled that Spain has already sent Portugal four high capacity amphibious aircraft to collaborate with the Portuguese personnel in fighting the fires in Pedrógão Grande. It has also sent members of the Spanish fire-fighters corps and from the Emergency Military Unit (Spanish acronym: UME).
