Recorded unemployment falls by 98,317 in June

In seasonally-adjusted terms, recorded unemployment fell by 21,668 in June.

Unemployment has fallen by 404,243 people over the last 12 months, the largest year-on-year decline in any month of June on record, and maintains the annual rate of reduction at close on 11%.

Unemployment among the under-25s fell by 16.5% in June year-on-year, slightly above the general average of 10.7%.

By sector of economic activity, recorded unemployment fell in the services sector by 75,101, in the construction sector by 10,168, in the industrial sector by 10,048 and among first-time job-seekers by 10,249. In contrast, it rose by 7,249 in the agriculture and fisheries sector.

Recorded unemployment fell in all 17 autonomous regions, with noteworthy declines in Catalonia (down 18,102) Andalusia (down 10,324), and Galicia (down 9,973).

Number of permanent employment contracts rises by 12.2%

The number of contracts registered in the month of June amounted to a total of 2,089,520, the highest figure on record for any month. This represents an increase of 169,180 (up 8.81%) on the same month in 2016.

The total number of new contracts in the first six months of 2017 amounts to 10,540,458, an increase of 11.02% on the same period last year.

A total of 166,462 permanent employment contracts were recorded in June 2017. This represents an increase of 18,067 (up 12.17%) on the same month last year, with 41 straight months of increases in permanent hiring.

In accumulated terms, 572,133 permanent full-time contracts have been signed between January and June this year, a rise of 13.76% on the same period of 2016.
