Number of contributors to Spanish social security system rises by 87,692 in June

Almost 2.3 million (2,282,360) of the jobs shed during the crisis have now been recovered (68.2% of those jobs lost).

Another significant figure is the number of female contributors to the social security system, which stands at 8,506,480 workers. This represents 46.15% of all workers.

The number of companies incorporated has grown by 3,127, a transition month.

Monthly change

The General Regime posted a rise of 77,094 contributors (up 0.51%), to stand at 15,125,719. Almost all economic sectors saw a rise in June, with noteworthy rises in the number of contributors in the Hotel and Catering Industry, up 36,448, or 2.78%; in the Trade and Repair of Motor Vehicles and Motorbikes, up 31,344, or 1.34%; in Administrative Activities and Auxiliary Services, up 21,259, or 1.72%; in Healthcare Activities and Social Services, up 20,412, or 1.45%; and in Manufacturing Industry, up 13,724, or 0.78%.

The Special System for Agricultural Workers posted a decline of 31,140 contributors (down 3.79%), as a result of the drought in the countryside. The sector now has an average total of 789,671 contributors. In turn, the Special System for Domestic Workers fell by 559 (down 0.13%) to stand at a total of 428,533 workers.

3,238,410 contributors were registered under the Regime for Self-Employed Workers, following a rise of 9,324 people (up 0.29%).

A rise of 1,284 contributors was posted in the Special Regime for Seamen (up 1.97%), to a total of 66,323 workers. Finally, the Regime for Coal Workers posted a decline of 10 contributors (down 0.36%) to a total of 2,654 workers in June.

The number of National Insurance contributors rose in 13 autonomous regions in June, only falling in Navarre (down 0.11%), La Rioja (down 0.31%), Murcia (down 0.71%) and Andalusia (down 0.90%).

Comparison with 2016

In year-on-year terms, June closed with an average of 672,835 more contributors (up 3.79%). Specifically, the General Regime posted buoyant results, with a rise of 643,024 contributors, up 4.44%. This rise stands at 4.71% when looking at the General Regime in a strict sense (discounting the Special Systems for Agricultural Workers and Domestic Workers).

It should be noted that the rate rose by 0.9% under the Special Regime for Self-Employed Workers, which translates into an increase of 29,032 workers. The Regime for Seamen rose by 2.07% (up 1,343), while the Regime for Coal Workers posted a decline of 563 contributors (down 17.49%).

Compared with last year, the number of workers has increased in all provinces and autonomous regions. Particularly noteworthy are the Balearic Islands, with an increase of 5.72%, the Canary Islands, with an increase of 5.65%, the Region of Murcia, with an increase of 5.02%, the Region of Valencia, with an increase of 4.66% and Andalusia, with an increase of 4.43%.
