Paris (France)

On a highly symbolic day in shared remembrance of the horror of the millions of deaths which was a prelude to an even greater war, Pedro Sánchez stated that nowadays "the great silent war we are undergoing is climate change, which is already causing thousands of deaths, forced migrations and hunger". The President of the Government remarked that "this is the greatest challenge we face globally and a threat to peace and security". To overcome this situation, Pedro Sánchez advocated fraternity, multilateralism and inter-generational solidarity, "and acting urgently and with determination", stated the President of the Government,

At the forum, President of the Government Sánchez explained that Spain is committed to the ecological transition of the whole economy, "and we must talk about a circular economy, renewable energies, the industry of recycling waste, in short, about a paradigm shift", stated Pedro Sánchez, who indicated that "international cooperation and the ecological transition of the economy are the drivers with which we must tackle this major challenge of climate change".

Democracy, tolerance and rejection of war

The President of the Government contributed to the new Peace Library with the work "Political Speeches" by Manuel Azaña, a book that gathers together speeches from a politician who lived through the war in the first person, an experience summarised in the words with which he concluded his last speech before leaving Spain on his way to exile, "Peace, mercy, forgiveness". This work, explained Pedro Sánchez, "is filled with democracy, tolerance and the rejection of the horrors of war".

Following the closing of the forum, the President of the Government held a meeting with the Palestinian Prime Minister, Rami Hamdallah, with whom he reviewed the situation in the Near East and the administration of the Palestinian Authority to ensure that Palestine is recognised as an independent State. The Government of Spain, in line with the approach by the European Union, advocates the two-State solution to the conflict between Palestine and Israel.
