Mariano Rajoy attends minute's silence in memory of victims of attacks in Catalonia

The public protest condemning the attacks was attended by King Felipe VI; the President of the Government of Spain, Mariano Rajoy; the Vice-President of the Government, Soraya Sáenz de Santamaría; the Minister for Home Affairs, Juan Ignacio Zoido; the Minister for Health, Social Services and Equality, Dolors Monserrat; the Central Government Representative in Catalonia, Enric Millo; the President of the Regional Government of Catalonia, Carles Puigdemont; the Vice-President of the Regional Government of Catalonia, Oriol Junqueras; the councillors of the Regional Government of Catalonia; the Speaker of the Regional Parliament of Catalonia, Carme Forcadell; and the Mayor of Barcelona, Ada Colau; among other officials.

This tribute to the victims was also attended by the leaders of the Partido Socialista Obrero Español (PSOE) [Spanish Socialist Workers' Party], Pedro Sánchez; Podemos [We Can], Pablo Iglesias; and Ciudadanos [Citizens], Albert Rivera.

Beforehand, the President of the Government held another meeting at the headquarters of the Government Representative's Office in Catalonia with leaders of the State law enforcement agencies to examine the situation following the attacks and to remain up-to-date with the course of the investigations.

During the course of the morning, the President of the Government spoke with numerous international leaders wishing to express their condolences over the terrorist attacks in Catalonia. Among others, he spoke with the German Chancellor, Angela Merkel; the President of France, Emmanuel Macron; the Prime Minister of Italy, Paolo Gentioni; the British Prime Minister, Theresa May; and the Secretary General of NATO, Jens Stoltenberg.
