Madrid

The message is exactly the same as the one I have just given in the Lower House; we have set up a Monitoring Committee, we are coordinating between the Regional Government of Madrid and the Government of Spain, as well as with all the European institutions and the World Health Organization.

We have passed on instructions for the committee to meet each day, which it is doing, and to inform the public on a daily basis. We believe that there must be full transparency and we have set the priorities: firstly, as you would expect, to attend to the person who has contracted the virus - only one person for the time being; secondly, monitor all those people who have been in contact with her, as is already taking place; and thirdly, investigate how she contracted the virus.

Aside from that, I believe it is very important to place our full trust in the Spanish healthcare professionals. Spanish healthcare is well-renowned, prestigious and well respected by colleagues from other parts of the world. Hence, we trust them; they must set out the guidelines which we will all respect and follow. In this regard, I should point out that they have told me it is very hard to contract this disease because it needs to be at an advanced stage for this to occur.

So, let's be watchful, but also remain calm; and I have full, total and absolute confidence in the healthcare professionals and by doing so, we will overcome this situation.

Thank you very much.
