Average number of foreign citizens registered with Spanish Social Security system stands at 1,848,329 in August

The highest figures for foreign workers contributing to the Social Security system correspond to Romania (321,023), Morocco (216,978), Italy (103,013), China (99,990) and Ecuador (71,879). These countries are followed by the United Kingdom (59,561), Colombia (58,493), Bulgaria (57,334) and Bolivia (51,178).

Autonomous regions

In month-on-month terms, all autonomous regions and cities posted increases in foreign National Insurance contributors, except Andalusia (down 0.78%), Aragon (down 1.82%), the Balearic Islands (down 0.44%), Castile and Leon (down 0.74%), Castile La Mancha (down 5.15%), Catalonia (down 0.61%), the Region of Valencia (down 1.74%), the Region of Madrid (down 1.1%), the Region of Murcia (down 7.85%), the Basque Country (down 1.07%) and Melilla (down 0.24%)

The figures posted for August show that 1,076,445 of the total foreign citizens registered with the Spanish Social Security system are from countries outside of the European Union, while the remaining 771,883 are from EU countries.

The majority of foreign citizens are registered under the General Regime: 1,545,359 in total, a figure that includes the Special System for Agricultural Workers (184,508) and the Special System for Domestic Workers (183,131). This is followed by the Special Regime for Self-Employed Workers (297,752), the Special Regime for Seamen (5,071) and the Special Regime for Coal Workers (147).

Of the total foreign citizens in the system in August, 1,023,805 are men and 824,524 are women.
