In terms of the various regions, the Canary Islands head up the list with a forecast hotel occupancy figure of 91.2%. This is followed by Catalonia with 89.8%; Andalusia with 88.7%; and the Region of Valencia with 87.4%.

Furthermore, it is worth noting the increases in some autonomous regions when comparing the 2017 forecasts with the actual occupancy figures posted in 2016. Hence, occupancy in Galicia is expected to reach 76.5%, while it stood at 68.4% in 2016; in Cantabria, the forecast for this year stands at 85.2%, while actual occupancy in 2016 stood at 81.1%.

The State Secretary also mentioned the significance of urban tourism given that high occupancy figures are expected in the major cities: 92% in Barcelona; 91% in Seville; and 82% in Valencia.

Finally, the State Secretary congratulated the tourism sector in general on the biannual Tourism Competitiveness Report published by the World Economic Forum. The study once again lists Spain as the most competitive country in terms of tourism and even improves the rating of the country on the figure published in the previous study, in 2015 (5.43, up from 5.31).
