Spending by inbound tourists increases by 13.8% in January

Average spending per tourist stood at 1,089 euros, with a year-on-year rise of 2.8%. Furthermore, the average daily spend rose by 5.8% to 129 euros.

At 762 million euros, the United Kingdom is the leading emitting country in terms of spending (with 17.9% of the total), followed by Germany, with 529 million euros (12.4%), and the Nordic countries, with 470 million euros. It is important to highlight that spending by British tourists resident in Spain has grown by 25.1%, while spending by resident German tourists has increased by 12.8%.

As regards destination autonomous regions, the Canary Islands received the largest volume of spending, with 1.42 billion euros, 11.3% up on the same month last year. This accounted for 33.3% of all tourist spending in January.

Catalonia received 823 million euros, down 0.9%, with a market share of 19.4%, followed by the Region of Madrid, with 625 million euros, a rise of 34.5% and a market share of 14.7%.

Among the rest of the main destination autonomous regions, which all show a positive trend, noteworthy is the Region of Valencia, which has grown by 26.6%, with tourist spending of 390 million euros.
