Recorded unemployment increases by 44,685 in October

Hence, the total number of recorded unemployed now stands at 3,764,982 and remains at the lowest level for the last seven years.

In seasonally-adjusted terms, unemployment fell by 48,007 in the month of October, the largest decline on record in a month of October. Unemployment has fallen month-on-month in seasonally-adjusted terms in 41 of the last 42 months.

Over the last 12 months, unemployment has fallen by 411,387. The rate of year-on-year decline in unemployment stood at 9.85%, the largest year-on-year decline on record.

Unemployment among the under-25s fell by 53,025 in year-on-year terms, meaning that youth unemployment has fallen by a total of 14.24% year-on-year, a faster rate than the general average of 9.85%.

Recorded unemployment fell in four autonomous regions, with particularly noteworthy declines in the Region of Valencia (down 6,875), the Basque Country (down 2,935) and Navarre (down 586). In contrast, it rose in the remaining 13 regions, headed up by Castile-La Mancha (up 13,864) and the Balearic islands (up 8,737).

Recorded unemployment rose among workers in the agriculture sector by 13,413 (up 8.07%), in industry by 1,036 (up 0.3%), in services by 34,763 (up 1.39%) and among first-time job seekers by 1.828 (up 0.56%). In contrast, it fell in the construction sector by 6,355 (down 1.68%).

Permanent employment contracts increase by 10%

The number of contracts registered in the month of October amounted to a total of 1,867,360, the highest figure for a month of October in the last nine years. This represents an increase of 106,750 (up 6.06%) on the same month last year.

A total of 166,830 permanent employment contracts were recorded in October. This is an increase of 15,178 (10.01%) on October 2015.

Since January, a total of 1,436,114 stable contracts have been formalised, an increase of 167,674 (up 13.22%) on the same period of 2015.
