In seasonally-adjusted terms, unemployment fell by 8,329 in April.

Over the last 12 months, recorded unemployment has fallen by 321,845. The rate of year-on-year decline in unemployment stands at around 7.5% in April.

Unemployment among the under-25s has fallen by 40,955 over the last year, at a rate of decline of 10.7% year-on-year, well above the general average of 7.5%. In the month of April, unemployment among young people fell by 6,060.

Recorded unemployment fell in all autonomous regions, headed up by Andalusia (down 15,522), Catalonia (down 13,868) and Castile La Mancha (down 10,705).

By sector of activity, recorded unemployment fell among those who most recently worked in the services sector, with 50,807 fewer unemployed (down 1.88%), in the construction sector, with 14,190 fewer unemployed (down 3.23%), in the agriculture sector, with 10,417 fewer unemployed (down 4.94%), and in the industrial sector, with 9,518 fewer unemployed (down 2.47%). In contrast, it rose among first-time job seekers by 1,333 (up 0.38%).

Increase in permanent full-time employment contracts

The number of contracts registered in the month of April amounted to a total of 1,541,729, an increase of 101,348 contracts (up 7.04%) on the same month of 2015.

The number of permanent employment contracts registered in April amounted to 145,896, an 18.17% increase, or 22,437 additional contracts, on the same month of last year.

Permanente full-time employment contracts have increased year-on-year by 21%, and is the segment to record the largest rise.
