The raft of projects presented from Spain, 78 in total, will result in an investment in excess of 1.14 billion euros, with funding being requested amounting to some 36% (approximately 415 million euros).

The budget available under this round of CEF funding amounts to 1.09 billion euros and will be allocated to subsidise Single Sky-SESAR; ERTMS; innovation and new technologies; urban nodes; logistics terminals and platforms; safety systems in infrastructures; motorways of the sea; ITS and RIS projects.

It is estimated that the subsidies will be definitively approved in the month of July.

"Connect Europe" Facility (CEF)

The CEF is a European Union instrument to provide financial aid for projects of common interest to Trans-European transport, telecommunications and energy networks.

Funding for the development of the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T) amounts to 24.02 billion euros over the period 2014-2020. The funding forecast for the general rounds of calls to which Spain has access amounts to 13 billion euros.

In the 2014 round of calls, with a provision of 8.3 billion euros, Spain was assigned a total of 827 million euros. On 5 November 2015, the round of subsidies for the "Connect Europe" Facility (CEF) for 2015 was published.

The subsidies for the projects presented to the "Connect Europe" Facility are granted to the competency of the different applications made under the round of calls. Institutions or companies established in any of the countries of the European Union can make applications, either on an individual basis or as joint ventures, as well as certain international organisations related to the infrastructure and transport sector.

All of the applications have expressly obtained the conformity of the respective government of the EU Member State in which the applicant institution or company is located. It falls to the Ministry of Public Works to offer its conformity in Spain.
