The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) will report to the members of the Security Council on this issue.

According to the description given by the Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations for Humanitarian Affairs, Stephen O´Brien, more than 30,000 civilians, the majority women and children, have been forced to abandon Aleppo and other cities due to heavy fighting and aerial bombings by the Syrian Government, allied forces and other armed groups. As a result of this, refugee camps close to the Turkish border are overflowing and those affected urgently need shelter, food and basic necessities.

Spain adds its name to the call made by the United Nations Humanitarian Coordinator and urges all parties to the conflict to meet their obligations under international law and allow humanitarian organisations safe and unconditional access to the civilian population in need, as well as to immediately stop attacks on the civilian population and infrastructures, particularly medical facilities.
