Through its Director, Rubén Urosa, the Young Persons' Institute [Spanish acronym: INJUVE] spoke at the presentation held at the United Nations Headquarters in New York of the international campaign in pursuit of the declaration of the Youth Employment Decade. This will result in the development of actions and initiatives that support the positioning of employment policies aimed at young people being considered to be among the political priorities of the international community.

Promoted by the Novia Salcedo Foundation, the campaign for declaration of the Youth Employment Decade is being supported by some 500 public and private bodies from over 70 countries.

Through the Ministry of Employment and Social Security and the Ministry of Health, Social Services and Equality, the Government of Spain expressed its support for this initiative in June by stating it supports the creation of an international debate and action movement capable of generating content and solutions regarding the matter of stable employment for millions of young people around the world. Declaration of the Youth Employment Decade by the United Nations, which is the objective of this campaign, is an opportunity and driving force for economic and social transformation in organisations and countries.

In fact, the Government of Spain has set up a campaign committee in this regard that includes members from the public authorities and social organisations in order to coordinate efforts and work.

Given the government's involvement in this issue, the Director of INJUVE attended the international presentation of the campaign that took place yesterday afternoon (night in Spain) in New York. The event was organised by the Novia Salcedo Foundation as part of the Youth Forum of the United Nations Economic and Social Council.

In his speech, Rubén Urosa underlined the situation of millions of unemployed young people (74 million according to the International Labour Organisation in its report entitled Global Trends for Youth Employment 2014) and advocated the promotion of policies aimed at developing productive activities, job creation and entrepreneurship, as well as fostering training and innovation, among other goals.
