Malala Yousafzai, who was the target of a brutal assassination attempt by a radical terrorist gang, represents the fight by the vast majority of Pakistani women and society in favour of free and universal education and against the despotism and intolerance of the minority who seek to impose their vision of the world through violence and terror.

By awarding this prize, the Nobel Peace Committee acknowledges the tireless work of Kailash Satyarthi on behalf of children's rights, in particular the fight against forced labour of minors, having managed to free tens of thousands of children from working in conditions that were little short of slavery and offer them an opportunity to achieve the personal development to which they are entitled, through rehabilitation and education.

The Spanish Government joins in the tribute paid by the international community, through the award of these prizes to Malala Yousafzai and Kailash Satyarthi, to those who struggle in favour of the rights of the weakest groups in society, of children all around the world - particularly those that find themselves in situations of marginalisation or under-development - to health, education, hygiene, leisure and, in short, to live a dignified childhood.
