The decision, proposed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, was taken in response to the extreme difficulties currently being experienced by people wishing to obtain seats on commercial flights.

The Government has been working on implementation of this measure for the last 48 hours and it was one of the issues discussed at the second meeting of the Monitoring Group held on Thursday morning at Moncloa Palace.

Also at said meeting, it was decided to recommend those Spanish residents in Japan who may still be within a 120-kilometre radius of the Fukushima nuclear plant to leave and head to other parts of the country.

Furthermore, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation informed the Group that it has taken the decision to increase the number of consular staff at the Spanish Embassy in Tokyo.
