During the meeting, Sanchez welcomed New Zealand's support for Ukraine and its close cooperation with NATO as a NATO partner country in the Pacific.

In 2021, the two leaders officially launched the 'Global Values Partnership', which seeks to uphold a rules-based international order based on shared values such as democracy, the rule of law, sustainability, diversity, gender equality and human rights. Sánchez stressed that this Partnership will serve to "build more inclusive societies, greener economies and more resilient democracies".
