The President of the Government of Spain, Pedro Sánchez, has held a meeting at Moncloa Palace with the President of the Republic of Guinea Bissau, Umaro Sissoco Embaló.

Guinea Bissau currently chairs the Conference of Heads of State and Government of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), and will continue to do so throughout 2023.

President Sánchez has conveyed Spain's support for this key body in terms of maintaining peace and stability in the region, as well as in the defence of democracy and good governance in West Africa.

The President of the Government has discussed with Umaro Sissoco Embaló the Spanish Presidency of the Council of the European Union, which will take place during the second half of the year, and both leaders have stressed the importance of continuing to strengthen political, economic and cooperation relations.
