Spain and Canada adopt a Joint Declaration reaffirming their defence of the rule-based international order

The meeting, held at the end of the NATO Summit, also has the peculiarity of taking place 40 years after the official visit to Spain of Pierre Trudeau, the current Prime Minister's father.

In the framework of this meeting, Spain and Canada have adopted a Joint Declaration in which the two countries reaffirm their defence of the rule-based international order. The text updates the Canada-Spain Cooperation Agenda Declaration, adopted in Montreal in 2018.

During the meeting, both leaders reiterated the deep personal and political harmony that unites them - this is their eighth official meeting - based on the same shared values of defending human rights, democracy, the Rule of Law, feminism and gender equality. They have reinforced a convergence of feminist foreign policy approaches, including global issues such as the consequences of the war in Ukraine, the upcoming G20 meeting, climate change and energy transition, the promotion of the Leaders' Network for Multilateralism, migration and regional challenges - Latin America and the Sahel - among others.
