Buenos Aires (Argentina)

The President of the Government said: "Spain and Argentina are two societies that have suffered the barbarity of dictatorships, and democratic memory is an exercise that we have to defend and emphasise on a daily basis". In this sense, both governments have today agreed on a declaration of commitment to exchange diplomatic archival documentation to shed light on major human rights violations and to contribute to the reconstruction of memory, truth and justice.

During the visit, Sánchez remembered the thousands of people who were detained or who disappeared during the dark years of the dictatorship, at least 136 of them Spaniards, to whom the president paid tribute shortly afterwards in front of the monument in their memory at the Spanish Embassy in Argentina.
